I wish you days of
being your "best
self".

I guess it is because Valentine's Day has just passed that I
am thinking about the concept of giving.  And two quotes (I
love quotes!) stand out for me about giving.  One is from
Walt Whitman who said, "When I give, I give of myself."  This
speaks to me because in my business, when I work with a
client, I have nothing else to give, except myself.  And it is
oftentimes the case that I wonder, when faced with someone
else's huge life circumstances, am I enough?  And in many
ways, I am not, but I am all I have in those moments.  My
compassion and willingness to listen, tend and hurt
alongside someone in their distress.  Another quote from
David Trueblood is "It takes a noble man to plant a seed for
a tree that will some day give shade to people he may never
meet."  This is hope.  Hope that what we do today or who we
are today will end up making a positive difference in the
future.  The idea that if I hold my tongue or act my "best self"
in a difficult situation without giving in to destructive or
negative feelings, it may open up something for someone
else that would not have been opened.  I wish you days in
which you can be your best self in the face of camaraderie
or adversity.  This is what you can give everyday.
